Imaging is used to measure the uniformity of tread pattern and depth of the tire tread. The "bump" is a salt crystal. Defects can be automatically detected through software. |

The 3D scanning can be used to detect and read the alphanumerical identification for the tire. In this image, you can see a salt crystal and a sprue, left over from the molding process. Not only can we recognize the text, but we can tell if it is sufficiently raised to be readable by human eyes. |

Again, imaging allows for detection of surface defects and recognition of tire markings. |
